Matthew Griffin

Matt is a self-taught realism charcoal and graphite artist deriving from Riverhead, West Auckland. He has a Bachelor of Structural Engineering of which has taken most of his time for the past 4 years and has now converted to a full-time artist as of start of 2018. He has used graphite since early teens and since picking up charcoals mid 2017 now uses charcoal for 90% of his work. His main medium is charcoal on Fabriano paper.

Matt's first exhibition was a solo exhibition held at Lowtide Studios, Karangahape Road, at the start of 2017. Since then a joint exhibition called 'Insomnia' held at Allpress studio in Auckland Town later in 2017.

Matt entered into one competition called 'Cliftons Art Prize' of which he received 1st prize and endeavors to enter into more in the future. He has also received the art excellence award from his high school, St Peters College.
