Andi Merkens

Andi Merkens is an established artist. Her work has a nostalgic feel to it, drawing inspiration from the humble house sparrow.
Sparrows frequent Andi’s work, she views them as spiritual messengers with playful demeanours, cheeky with sociable behaviour, and instantly relatable and personable subject matter.
Andi repurposes found materials as her chosen canvas, reutilising eclectic pieces of timber and windows, paying homage to the iconic New Zealand villa.
Embracing textures, typefaces, and woodgrains, these pre-existing surfaces tell stories of life in New Zealand and each are enhanced by Andi’s trained eye and hand with embellished detail, type, and her signature touch, the sparrow.
Her extensive background in advertising and then the fine arts has led her to create bespoke pieces that have been exhibited extensively and are housed in private collections throughout the country.
