Judy Stokes

Judy is an Auckland based photographer. Her photographs focus on capturing the mood rather than the literal translation of what is in front of her and are often described as looking like paintings rather than photographs. She exhibits regularly throughout New Zealand and Internationally. She has exhibited in the NZ Art Show, the Nelson Art Show and the Christchurch Art Show as well as in Auckland. In 2017 she won the Taranaki National Art Award with her image “Storm Out at Sea.” She also published her first book “Moments in Muriwai” and became a tutor of Impressionist and Abstract Photography for NZPhotographyTours. Judy’s tree series- “From the Passenger’s Seat” explores the theme of the fragility of passing moments- moments of time as well as passing moments on our fragile planet. The image “Bruised” won a gold medal in 2015.
