After 9 busy years enjoying the creative process at Weta Workshop, Tracey left in 2012 to pursue her art dreams. Four years later, in May 2016, she had her first solo exhibit
These two prints were from my series called Kia ora Klimt, where all the work was inspired by the "golden paintings" by Austrian artist Gustav Klimt. Klimt was most well-known for "The Kiss” which Te Kihi is based on. The second print is Ka Kauawhi (based on the Embrace) My adaption of European art creates a heightened sense of Māori values of women. Our wāhine are deities of mana; the blue skin represents the connection to Tangaroa and the ocean. My love for Māori design combines with Klimt’s work, allowing for a connection of cultures to be made. The original paintings incorporated glitter dust to emphasis the beauty of the the cloaks (which was influenced by the artwork of New Zealand painter Reuben Patterson).
